Commissioned by Auckland Art Gallery as part of the celebrations for Chinese New Year, this project involved the design and construction of a large illuminated horse lantern. Created as a striking visual centrepiece, the lantern combines traditional festive inspiration with modern fabrication techniques.
The structure was engineered in our workshop using laser-cut components, allowing for a lightweight yet durable frame capable of supporting the lantern’s scale and lighting elements. Layered materials and internal illumination bring the form of the horse to life, creating a vibrant display piece designed to glow after dark.
From concept development through to fabrication and assembly, this project showcases the versatility of our workshop and our ability to deliver large-scale custom commissions. The finished lantern stands as a bold, celebratory installation that captures the spirit, colour, and energy of the festival.
